Vera Ann Bowels McDuffie, 91, of Hondo, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Ann was born on January 10, 1935, in Macon, Tennessee. Throughout her 91 years, she lived a life defined by strength, determination, creativity, and an unwavering love for her family. She worked hard to provide for her children, never shying away from a challenge and always putting the people she loved first.
At the age of 40, Ann began a career as a long-haul truck driver, proving that courage and determination knows no age. After retiring, she fulfilled another dream by opening Ann's Attic in Hondo, Texas, with her daughters. As the creative heart of the shop, Ann poured her talent and imagination into designing beautiful custom jewelry, bringing joy to countless customers until the store closed in 2014. When she wasn't creating, Ann found her greatest happiness at home. She loved tending to her garden, crafting, caring for her beloved animals, and spending precious time with her family. Her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and the simple pleasures that meant the most to her. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, creativity, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry McDuffie; her father, Craig Bowels; her mother, Gaudie Culver; her son, Chad Chadwick; and her daughter, Nena Wright. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cherri Sinclair (George) and Vicki Lister (John); her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and countless family members and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
In keeping with Ann's wishes, no formal service will be held. Her family will honor her final request by taking her home to Tennessee, where she will forever remain close to her roots.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to the American Red Cross in honor of Ann, who dedicated many years of her life to volunteering and helping others.
Though she will be deeply missed, Ann's love, strength, and beautiful spirit will remain with her family always. Her memory will continue to bloom in every flower, shine through every handmade creation, and live on in the stories shared by those who loved her.
