Sofia B. Dominguez

Sofia Barrientes Dominguez, age 97, of Hondo, Texas, passed away on March 3, 2026, in Hondo. Sofia was born in Hondo, Texas on April 4, 1928, to Eudelia and Ildefonso Barrientes.

Sofia was a graduate of Hondo High School and worked at the Hondo Anvil Herald. She married Raul H. Dominguez, also from Hondo, Texas, and together they had 6 children: Hector, Ricardo, Jerardo, Diane, Raul, and Carolyn. Sofia was a doting grandmother to 16 grandchildren and often took care of them during the summer months. As a mother, she always had a busy household with all of her children and nieces and nephews at home. She would often share memories of the time taking care of her grandchildren. She was always very happy and proud to share the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren with visitors. In later years, she became known as “the Avon lady”. Sofia made friends very easily with everyone and was a great listener.

Sofia is preceded in death by her husband: Raul H. Dominguez; daughter: Diane Dominguez; son: Raul L. Dominguez; grandsons: Jacob Dominguez, Francisco Dominguez, and Levi Dominguez; parents: Ildefonso and Eudelia Barrientes; sisters: Lucia Gonzalez, Berta Gonzalez, and Candelaria Barrientes; brothers: Raoul Barrientes, Oscar Barrientes, and Robert Barrientes; and grandparents: Luciano Barrientes and Celia Uregias Barrientes.

Sofia is survived by her sons: Hector, Ricardo, and Jerardo; daughter: Carolyn Rodriguez; sisters: Elva Gonzales, and Irma Guedea; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Hondo Funeral Home on Thursday, March 5, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m., and will be followed by recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. John’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m., and will conclude with interment at Hondo Cemetery.
