Santa Lara Salazar, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on June 2, 1953, in Hondo, Texas, Santa was raised in the Yancey area, where she developed the strong work ethic and dedication that would define her life.
As a teenager, Santa worked as a farm laborer before dedicating 40 years of her life to the pecan farm and shelling factory in Yancey, Texas. There, she diligently cleaned and packaged pecans and other produce for distribution to renowned companies like Labbatt Food Service and Bill Miller Bar-B-Q. Her hard work and commitment were a source of pride for her family and community.
Santa was a devoted and selfless wife, mother, and grandmother who prioritized her family above all else. Despite modest circumstances, she raised three children—Joe, Eric, and Michelle—who each achieved remarkable success as a small business owner, physician, and high school English teacher, respectively. Her love and example shaped their lives and inspired their accomplishments.
Santa found immense joy in cooking and caring for her four grandchildren—Paloma, Daniel, Mia, and Kalina—who adored her deeply. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
Santa is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Lara. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, her four sisters, her three children and spouses, and her four grandchildren. Her legacy of love, strength, and dedication will live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
