Ruth Jeanette Blanton

December 30, 1941 — October 11, 2023

Ruth Jeanette Blanton, age 81, of the Brown Ranch Community north of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. She was born December 30, 1941, in Stephenville, Texas, to Hugh Tom Herring and Ida Conaway Ripley Herring.

Ruth grew up in Stephenville, lived in Abilene for two years and attended the ACU Demonstration School in the 50's before the family moved back to Stephenville.  In Stephenville, she attended Central Elementary and Stephenville's Middle and High schools.

She was a vivacious dedicated mother and enjoyed her life, living in Stephenville, Waco, San Antonio, and finally settling in her beloved Texas Hill Country. She loved God, country, her family, and her wide circle of friends. She enjoyed traveling in her motor home and on planes or cruise ships to distant places. She also loved sharing her home in the Hill Country with family and friends. Her friends have described her as special, wonderful, graceful, beautiful, sweet, and amazing. She also had a keen sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Blanton; her parents, Hugh and Connie Herring; brother-in-law, Larry Cooper; and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Richard Chaffin.

She is survived by her sister, Joy Cooper of Richardson, Texas; her late-life companion, Robert Peden; daughters Dawn Hoyt (Brian) of Chico, Texas, Donna Blanton of San Antonio; sons, Jim Littleton (Mary Anne) of Adkins, Texas, David Littleton (Brenda) of San Antonio, and Doug Blanton of Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved deeply; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and friends from across the country.

There will be a family-only service on November 24, 2023, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. The family will host a Celebration of Life at the ranch on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

Ruth enjoyed life and always did her best to make the world a better place. As such, memorials may be made to the Hondo Methodist Church, Samaritan's Purse, or a charity of your choice having the same goal.
