Patton Allen “Pat” Foster

Patton Allen Foster, known to family and friends as “Pat,” passed away peacefully at his home in Hondo, Texas, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 9, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was 79 years old.

Pat was born Patton Allen Peery on December 26, 1945, in Houston, Texas. After being adopted by his aunt and uncle, he took the name Patton Allen Foster, though to everyone he was simply “Pat.”

He graduated high school in 1964 and later attended Del Mar College, where he studied restaurant management. Pat proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. After his military service, he worked as a Kleberg County deputy on Padre Island for a few years before moving to Odessa, Texas, where he became co-owner of Longhorn Barbecue.

During his years in Brackettville, Texas, Pat owned and operated the beloved BBQ restaurant “Pat’s Place” and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He later worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 19 years and also served his community as a commissioner on the board for Emergency Services District 6 in Hondo, Texas.

Pat was known for his sharp and witty sense of humor that could lighten any mood, his compassion toward animals, his love of music and classic Westerns, and his passion for cooking, which brought family and friends together around the table. He also volunteered extensively for his church and supported his children’s schools and activities, especially their sports. Above all, he found his greatest joy in the love of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Gail “Patti” Foster; daughter Cecelia Ann Foster-Brooks and husband Christopher A. Brooks; sons Thomas Roy Foster and wife Donnette “Nette” Foster, Matthew Allen Foster and wife Tanci Foster, David Anthony Foster and wife Jennifer Sue Foster, and Stephen Patrick Foster-Mejia and husband Charles Ray (Charlie) Mejia-Foster. Pat was a proud grandfather to Joshua Evan Brooks, Zachary Joseph Brooks, Abigail Elizabeth Brooks, Gabriel Christopher Brooks, Sarah Ann Brooks, Gregory Joseph Carrenza, Kirsten Therese Fontanella, Natalie Gail Foster, Mattie Cecelia Foster, Bryan Allen Foster, Hannah Leigh Foster, Samantha Sue Foster, Ariel Renee Foster, and Mikayla Rose Foster; and great-grandfather to Claire Maria Brooks, Warren James Brooks, Violet Elizabeth Brooks, and Zuri Dior Leslie.
