Ofilia Colunga

Ofilia Colunga, age 94, of Hondo, Tx, passed away at her home on December 5, 2025, surrounded by her sons and caretakers.

She was born in Hondo and was a lifelong resident of Medina County.

Ofilia was married to her beloved husband, Aniceto (Cheto) Colunga, on July 4, 1953, with whom she shared a full life of family, faith, travel, and a love of community.

Ofilia was a gifted seamstress, known for her exceptional skill and artistry.

In 1987, she won Best of Show at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas for a tailored suit she crafted by hand. She also won several awards in Bexar and Medina County shows.

In her earlier years, she generously shared her talents in sewing, instructing and providing support to anyone who wanted to learn the craft to which she devoted her life. Ofilia enjoyed being involved in local ‘Quilting Bees’ and ‘Out to Lunch Bunch’ clubs. Ofilia and Aniceto shared a passion for travel, making several memorable trips to Europe together, and always enjoyed visiting family in California. She was also a faithful member of St John’s Catholic Church where she served on numerous committees over the years.

Ofilia is survived by her children, David and wife Margaret, Kenneth and wife Sophie; grandchildren Matthew Aaron and his partner Mehgan, David Melecio and his wife Alicia, and Gabrielle Nicolasa and her husband Kyle. She is also survived by her siblings, Bert Garcia and wife Margie, Lydia Martinez, and Arnulfo Garcia and his wife Bennie, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary and funeral mass will be held on December 23rd at St John’s Catholic Church. Visitation begins at 9:00am, Rosary will begin at 10:00am, followed by the Mass at 10:30am and interment immediately after the mass at the Hondo Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her caretakers, Jeanette Rico, Elva Garza and Amanda Garza, for their devoted care and attention during the last few months.
