Laura Lee Curtis 69, of Hondo, Texas left us on March 6, 2021 to pass directly to heaven.
Laura was born May 19, 1951 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Laura Lee and Elmer Haffner as the youngest of three children.
She attended Catholic School in Corpus and graduated from Del Mar College with a degree in Nursing. Laura was very proud of her career as a Registered Nurse. She loved to be organized and serve others. She retired in 2010 from nursing to start a new career running the family farming and ranching business. It was her initiative and personality that made this new endeavor successful.
Above all, she was a woman of deep and unwavering Catholic faith. Her faith continued to grow exponentially as she courageously fought cancer over the last 11 years. She became a beacon of hope for many women through her evangelization. We all realize that through her faith in Jesus she ultimately won her battle.
After faith, family topped her list of important things in life. Laura was the matriarch of the Curtis family organizing the parties, vacations, and holiday gatherings with her special zeal for fun. She loved life and always was the life of the family party. She loved to laugh, go on road trips to the beach, eat a rare steak, have a campfire, and drink a glass of good cabernet. She also provided tough love to the children challenging them to reach their potential. She especially loved her grandchildren who she called “my 4 Littles”.
Laura made everyone better through her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She never met a stranger and appreciated everyone who helped her in her daily life. Anyone out there remember her cookie baskets at Christmas?
We will all miss her.
She is survived by her husband Bud; Daughter Margaret (Dale) Koprek of Keller, Texas; Son Lacy (Brandi) Dolsen of San Antonio; Stepchildren Katie Curtis, John Curtis of San Antonio; Sister Margaret (David) Penick of New Orleans; Brother Steve (Myra) Haffner of San Antonio; and grandchildren Laura Lucille Koprek, Caroline Koprek, Samuel Dolsen, and Audrie Dolsen; and many cousins, nieces, nephews; 2 dogs and a herd of cats.
A rosary will be recited before the funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo, Texas followed by a private family burial service at Mission Park North in San Antonio. Memorials may be made in her honor to Assumption Seminary Formation and Education Fund.
Services are under the direction of Hondo Funeral Home.
