John "Jack" B. Harrison

December 22, 1937 — June 12, 2025

John “Jack” Barron Harrison, 87, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born on December 22, 1937, in Austin, Texas, to Henry and Henrietta Harrison. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Henry Harrison II and William Harrison. He is survived by his sister Edith who is now 89.

Jack graduated from the University of Texas in 1961 and earned his CPA license, beginning his career in accounting in 1971. He eventually started his own practice, which he operated until well into his 80s. He was known for his diligence and professionalism. While working as an accountant, he also served as a substitute teacher at Terrell Middle School in Houston—an experience that brought him joy and allowed him to share his love of learning with students.

On December 4, 1965, Jack married the love of his life, Patricia Perez. Their 54-year marriage was a beautiful example of faith, humor, and devotion. Patricia preceded him in death in March 2020. Together, they raised two daughters: Nicole Miller (James Miller) and Miranda Gonzales (Noe Gonzales), who were the pride and joy of his life.

Jack was a devoted grandfather to Adam Gonzales, Noe Pineda (Vivianne Pineda), Divinity Vazquez (José Vazquez), Evan Touchet (Anahi Touchet), and the late Joshua Touchet who passed in 2022. He was also a beloved great-grandfather to Matias, Marcelo, Evan Y., and Benny. He treasured time with his family and was a constant, joyful presence at every gathering.

Jack was known for his kind heart, gentle manner, and wide, welcoming smile. He had an innate respect for all people and cultures and found beauty in the diversity of the world. A lifelong learner, he would read the Encyclopedia Britannica simply to explore how ideas and history were taught across time and perspectives. He had a special love for public transportation and would ride the Houston Metro just to see where it would take him. He walked nearly everywhere and continued riding his bicycle well into his 80s.

Jack was on the board and volunteered with several Houston-based organizations, including the Houston Highland Games Association, the Down Syndrome Association of Houston, and the League of Women Voters of Houston. He was also the Precinct Captain of the Democratic Party in Houston.

Though raised Episcopalian, Jack and Patricia were faithful members of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Bellaire, Texas, for nearly 50 years, where they built a deep spiritual community.

Jack had a quiet wit and was famously able to nap just about anywhere. “Just need 15 minutes,” he would say, and somehow, he truly meant it—napping sitting up, on hard benches, or in a car, recharging in an instant. His parting words were always, “See you on the turn,” a phrase that now carries deep meaning for those he leaves behind.

Jack’s legacy of humility, compassion, and curiosity lives on in everyone who knew him. He was the kind of man who left people better than he found them.
