Emily Jane Guthrie Johnson
Jane Johnson, of Hondo, passed peacefully surrounded by family, 2/19/24. Born 10/29/47, to Wesley Neal and Marie Oliver Guthrie in Paris, Texas. They moved to San Antonio in 1951, and she graduated in 1966, from Thomas Jefferson High School.
She married the love of her life, James Redmond Johnson, Hondo, Texas, July 1, 1988. Together they lived in several states but eventually moved back to Hondo in August 1992. It was at this time she made the decision to never move again. She was the reason all her children stayed or moved to Hondo.
She was a member of, and served as, the nursery attendant at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hondo, Texas for over 20 years.
Jane was a saint who loved children and found her calling providing in-home childcare. Her patience with children was limitless and she never wanted a child to feel left out. She cared for hundreds of children throughout her life and did so while raising her own five children. She was loved by so many and was often referred to, as the best babysitter ever.
She was a selfless mother who did any and everything she could for her family. Her greatest enjoyment in life was large family gatherings and watching her grandkids school activities and sports events. Her favorite time of year was Spring, as it meant a time of new life and beautiful flowers.
Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her brother David Guthrie (Jeanne) of Overland, KS and sister Nancy Wright of London, Texas, niece Heather McNatt (Donnie) of Odessa, Texas, husband Jamie, children Jennifer Luedke (Craig), Brian Bell (Billie), Courtney Constante (Daniel), Jonathan Johnson (Kaycie), Jordan Johnson (Kristy), Jeremiah Johnson (Elisabeth), 15 grandchildren, 3 Great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday February 23, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm at Hondo Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday February 24, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with internment to follow at Hondo Cemetery. The family says she absolutely loved flowers.
Service are under the direction of Hondo Funeral Home.
