James "Jimmy" Fohn Rothe

James Fohn Rothe (Jimmy) of D’Hanis, Texas passed away on August 23, 2022, surrounded by family at the age of 74.  He was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 24, 1948, to Howard and Lillian Fohn Rothe. He graduated from D’Hanis High School in 1966 and went on to graduate from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.

Jimmy traveled extensively after college. He became a history teacher at McDowell Middle School in Hondo, Texas and spent the last years of his life raising sheep on his family ranch in D’Hanis, Texas.

       Jimmy was a free-thinker and was dedicated to following his own path during his lifetime. He was intelligent, humorous, kind, considerate and above all a great friend to those who knew him. He loved the outdoors and all the creatures in it. He taught his daughter, and later his granddaughters, to enjoy and be thankful for what nature provides.

          Jimmy enjoyed spending time reading books and was an avid pool player.

     Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Rothe and Lillian Fohn Rothe. He is survived by his daughter Caitlin Rothe; son-in-law: Rafael Gutierrez; grandchildren: Lillian, Annaliese and Emelia Gutierrez of Uvalde, Texas; partner: Megan Anteola of San Antonio, Texas; sisters: Betty Irwin and Jane Weekley of San Antonio, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with a rosary being recited at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Hondo Funeral Home.
