Dorothy Wells passed away surrounded by family on March 19, 2024. Born Dorothy Nell Wise, on April 8, 1927, to George Leanard Wise and Wilma Pearl Byrd Wise in Cleburne, Texas, she was baptized on April 13, 1941, in St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Cleburne.
Due to the nature of her dad’s work, she lived in approximately 25 towns by 1941. Her dad changed jobs, and they settled in San Antonio. Dorothy graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1944. She worked at Western Union. On April 4, 1945, Dorothy married Thomas Houston Baker. They had 3 children together: Thomas Wayne, Carol Anne, and Donald Elmo. In February of 1952, they divorced.
Dorothy worked at USAA for 30 years, retiring in 1983. She married Nelson Woodrow Wells. He was a very caring man until his death in 1990. She moved to Hondo in January of 1998, and moved to D’Hanis in May of 2006.
Dorothy was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She deeply loved her church, St. Paul Lutheran in Hondo, and lived a very blessed life.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in San Antonio.
Services are under the direction of Hondo Funeral Home.
