Lieutenant Colonel Barry Neil Gear, United States Air Force (Ret.), passed away surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and quiet strength.
Barry honorably served in the United States Air Force for 32 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military career was marked by integrity, leadership, and a deep commitment to his country and fellow service members. He was immensely proud of his service and carried those values throughout his life.
Beyond his distinguished career, Barry found his greatest joy in his beautiful family and in the land he loved. Working at his Ranch in Yancey, Texas, brought him peace and he cherished the time he spent there. He was a man who valued hard work, loyalty, and tradition, and he lived those values every day.
Barry is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Veronica Gear; his children, Kevin Neil Gear (Rhonda), Virginia Marie Shamsie (Chuck), and Christine Leigh Gear (Luis Vélez); his sister, Pamela Karas (Jim); and his brother, Daniel Gear (Kim). He was a proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 3 great-grandchildren, and a beloved uncle to many.
Barry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend — a man of honor, humility, and steadfast love. His legacy of service, faithfulness, and family will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
Services are under the Direction of Hondo Funeral Home.
