Arlis Mardell Bunker, age 88, of Hondo, Texas, passed away on October 7, 2025, in Hondo. Arlis was born in Missoula, Montana on February 8, 1937, to Edwin and Esther Grenager.
Arlis is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years and the love of her life: Terry H. Bunker; son: Terry W. Bunker; parents: Edwin and Esther Grenager of Missoula, Montana; brother: Lyle Q. Grenager of Lolo, Montana; and mother-in-law: Eliza Bunker, of Valentine, Nebraska.
Arlis is survived by her daughter: Andrea “Andi” Hearn and husband John, of Hondo, Texas; grandchildren: Stephanie and David Gonzales of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tammera and Jose Hernandez of Hondo, Texas, Brandon and Lindsay Mangold of Castroville, Texas; great-grandchildren: Nathan and Dominic Gonzales, Ethan, Faith, Avery, and Madison Hernandez, Hudson, Waylon, and Taytum Mangold; great-great grandchild: Emory Gonzales; and sister: Andrea Sanzari Hanks of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Arlis worked in civil service for over 30 years on many different military bases. She loved traveling and would travel as often as she could. Hawaii was one of her and her husband’s favorite places to visit. As long as family was around, Arlis was good – family was the most important thing to her.
A graveside service will be held at Hondo Cemetery on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., followed by inurnment. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Shriners Hospital for Children.
